FIRE SAFETY STICKS TO THE RESCUE!
Here at Clubman Motorsport, we've seen the fire safety sticks in action for ourselves when competing on the 5th round of the Clubman Motorsport EMAMC Stage Rally Championship - the Rainworth Skoda Rally.
On stage 3, the rear of Mark Roberts' Fiesta S2500 caught fire, believed to be due to a problem with the exhaust. The car was well alight as they drove past the main spectator area!
Having used the on-board AFFF extinguisher to no avail, and that of other crews, Car 12 of Paul Walker arrived on scene and used his Fire Safety Stick.
In his own words, he was amazed at how effective the device was. "It just snuffed out the fire, something that the foam extinguishers were not. The Fire Sticks made the difference in controlling the fire vs loosing a £200k car."
Car 14 of Craig Stevens arrived 30 seconds later and again deployed his two Fire Sticks. "Using the Fire Sticks first maintains our mandatory on-board extinguishers - not only do we help out others, we still have what is needed to compete." (Of course, they would have shared their handheld if also needed!)
